Zoltán Petykó was born in Szarvas, Hungary in 1959. He attended high school in Szarvas, and then he studied at Budapest University of Economic Sciences . Since 1978 he lives with his family in Budapest. 

Following his university studies he started his carrier as an economist at Ravill Trading PLC., where later on he was in charge of running the controlling department as a director, then the company as a CEO.  After having worked at the company for almost 12 years he hold high ranking positions at many Hungarian market leader companies. Among others he worked as a deputy CEO of Phylaxia Pharma PLC., and supervised wide ranges of corporate governance as a CEO at Bábolna Agricultural PLC., and later at Hungexpo PLC.

In 2000 he became the President of the Association of Hungarian Exhibition and Fair Organizers and fulfilled the position for two years. Between 2004 and 2008 he was the president of Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Vice-president of Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He has been the Honorary President of Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry since 2008 and is currently the president of the advisory board of Budapest Public Work Council – Strategical Development Centre Foundation.
